Gareth Gates stars at Filby Primary

Staff, parents and pupils alike were excited to welcome former Pop Idol star turned actor and anti-bullying campaigner Gareth Gates to Filby Primary School last week.
Gareth delivered a motivational assembly about the importance of confidence and resilience. His personal story of overcoming challenges including bullying and his stammer resonated with the children, and they understood that this can make you stronger.
Pupils were very vocal in their enjoyment of the visit. Emily (Year 4) said: “He was very inspiring, teaching us to overcome our fears and be ourselves.” Tiffany (Year 4) agreed, saying: “He encouraged us to be ourselves and it doesn’t matter if you’re different.”
Meanwhile Molly (Year 4) added: “He taught us why being kind is important and bullying is the wrong thing to do.”
Jo Snelling, Headteacher of Filby Primary, said: “Gareth’s personal story really resonates with our pupils. He shows that challenges, whether that’s self-confidence or overcoming difficulties, do not define you - they can actually make you stronger.
“Events like today give our pupils a voice and reinforce what we teach every day: kindness, respect and resilience. We want our children to leave Filby Primary not only academically successful, but emotionally strong and confident in who they are.”
The children are looking forward to meeting Gareth again on a whole school trip to the Great Yarmouth pantomime in December, which he is starring in.
