Super heroes unite for SEND sports day

Children with special educational needs and disabilities from nine schools across Evolution Academy Trust have come together for a fun sports day at Costessey Primary School.

The day was a celebration of Paralympic Sporting Activities with a super hero theme, with additional opportunities for children to enjoy the day and display their creativity. They could have their face painted, have a photo with a super hero, design their own super hero mask and much more. Children and adults who attended were encouraged to dress as their favourite super hero.

James England, Assistant Head at Costessey Primary School, organised the event. He said: “We feel passionately that all children should be given the opportunity to participate in the full range of school experiences, including a fun and exciting sports day.”

The day started with an opening ceremony, followed by a morning of sports and lunch. A medal presentation finished events in the afternoon.

Pupils had a fantastic time, with one child from Bignold Primary School commenting: “I actually felt like a real life super hero!”

The schools participating, all from Evolution Academy Trust, were: Angel Road Infant School, Angel Road Junior School, Bignold Primary School, Costessey Primary School, Eaton Primary School and Wensum Junior School in Norfolk; and Dell Primary School, Elm Tree Primary School and Poplars Primary School from Suffolk.
